Personally, I would attempt to counteract this behaviour and not leave it to chance that it will fizzle out. You need to establish why the pup is behaving in this manner as it could be any number of things...perhaps find an experienced person who can actually witness the behaviour.

But, from my experience leaving it in the hope it will get better isn't such a good idea, the sooner you start to establish what is and what is not acceptable ( and excessive barking is not acceptable in my household )...the sooner you will get what you want....in theory, it should be easier to do so also. leaving a behaviour to get established and ingrained, will make it harder to train out as time goes by.

I would certainly find someone who can help you establish the reasons behind it...also I would be inclined to study her breeding and pedigree to find out whether this has a bearing on it.

I had a GSD puppy at 8 weeks who barked and growled at other dogs ( and anything else from people with umbrellas to people in our own family who happened to go out of the room and come back in again. )...she was nervous aggressive...although, from your description your pup doesn't sound nervous. In which case you stand more chance of fixing it if it is a dominance issue...fear, is a very different matter.

I would suggest you limit the time the puppy is allowed to be with the other two dogs. If you feel that she is barking for play, attention, then you do need to nip it in the bud...especially so if she is barking/growling over objects...none of my dogs are ever allowed ' possessions ' of any kind...and this has worked to my advantage over many years. All their ' toys ' are really my toys...to be used on my terms only and they never have toys left randomly about the house.

I'm sure this is just a question of you having got yourself a feisty pup...better that than a nervous one, or a sappy one...lots of potential to work with...but as I say, it's a bit difficult to come to solid conclusions on a forum and your best bet would be to seek the guidance of someone who can witness the pups behaviour.

it is possible, and likely, she will improve over time...but I would say this must be in conjunction with a solid training regime...don't leave anything to chance...

I would agree with jeffs comments aswell...I didn't mean to suggest the pup has serious behavioural problems...just to ' read ' the dog as Jeff suggests rather than ' leaving it to chance ' that the puppy will simply grow out of it. left without any kind of direction at all, a mischievious pup, will potentially develop other more annoying problems which stem from this...and as Jeff points out, puppies learn very quickly ' bad ' things as well as good things. I just simply meant to consider a structured training regime which would include regualar training away from the other dogs and only supervised interraction at other times. Of course, your puppy needs interraction with your other dogs, but I personally, would ensure this is all closely watched over by yourself. Training, isn't just about a strict rigid routine, it's about reading every situation and dealing with it accordingly as and when.

I only suggested someone experienced see the dog because you seemed to be quite concerned the puppy was behaving differently to other dogs you have had in the past. This in no way means the dog has behavioural problems...I couldn't possibly tell you that without seeing the pup...nobody could !....it just may mean the pup will need a different ' management ' approach to other dogs you have owned.

This was all I meant really...watch out, keep on the ball...dogs are very clever at ' manipulating ' humans...and it sounds as though, with this pup, you need to be one step ahead of the game.
