How do I get an optigen test done? |

How do I go about getting an optigen test done? I have a young lab dog that is growing on me and would like to confirm if he is clear. Is it as simple as
getting a blood sample from the vets and sending it to optigen.com? Anyone done this before? Thanks Darren

Darren,
How did the whelping go. You need to look at the optigen website, http://www.optigen.com/opt11_form.taf all the info is there. It is actually a cheek swab. Midland Gundog Society are running a 20/20 optigen clinic plus CNM testing, I think on 18 July. You must have had the details. Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for that, but by the time I got to leicester and back it would cost me £50 in desiel so will see if my vet will do it and send it on for me. The whelping went ok eventually. She was 4 days late but had 4 bitch pups, these were born early hours of wednesday morning. They are all fit and healthy at the moment so fingers crossed! Darren |

Darren,
You do the test either through the optigen website or a 20/20 clinic. The vets do not to it although you would need the vet (££££'s) if you wanted to submit a blood sample, but you would still have to send it to optigen yourself. You do not need a blood sample just a cheek swab. The dog also has to be microchipped. The 20/20 clinics are 20-25% cheaper than doing it yourself direct and they send the samples. If you want more info you could speak to Kate Smith. When I return from Scotland she is going to do a couple of my dogs at the clinic rate. If you wanted to come up you could get your dog done at the same time. Let me know if this is any good to you. Jeff |
