Fudge is now 10 weeks old and she is starting to grow in confidence.
She is quite a bold pup so i have started some basic obedience training.

She will sit to command ('hup') and hand signal.

Well all, started the formal training of Reba, yellow female lab. She is out of ft/ht bloodline dogs. I got her at the age of two months and let her be a puppy, with little or no training. As a house dog, she has learned the rules of the house. She is now 5 months old .
Met with Chris, the pro lab trained, today. He went over a training program to start with. She will sit, come, and heel. So today Chris wanted to see how she was with a live bird. We tried dead birds and she would smell,...

I reckon since i have never trained a lab before i should swallow my pride and post here.Perhaps if i am doing things in a wrong manner people will not be slow in coming forward to chastise me.I have a superb pup here and do not want to ruin his potential.Jed is a black lab nearly 5 months old and i thank his breeder for instilling basics into him -well done to Jim Tait!.

Yesterday I took Rusky along to a post-Christmas walkabout on a shoot down near Torness Nuclear Power Station.

It was the usual pre-Hogmanay affair, designed to work off the festive excesses, with drives alternating between walking and standing and it was really the first time I had used Rusky for anything other than wildfowling or "peg dog".

I have recently purchased a new dog puppy to add to a couple of new bitches I have recently breed.

I've noticed many on this board are from Europe, so I should first state that I'm from the United States and own 3 American Brittanys.

Blaze went for field training when he was 10 months old and spent the next 15 months with the trainer. He came home August 2006 and we ran in 4 horseback trials. Charlie had his second day on a large commercial shoot this weekend.
On the first drive he had 1 marked retrieve which just fell out of sight over a fence into cover,which he retrieved very well.
on the second retrieve he started to become a little unsettled so I kept encourageing to sit and giving him a reassuring stroke.A shot was fired at the first pheaseant out of the drive and hit the ground around 60 yards away.Charlie was off after it but I had the gut feeling he might run in, so...

Well, I have decided it is time to start a training journal for Dot, who is now 7 1/2 months old (black lab bitch).

I didn't start a diary earlier as we had some early problems with dummy delivery which took quite a while to get better, and I had to actually teach a 'hold'.

So, at the moment Dot can:

Today Bilbo and i went out with the rest of the groupe that i train with this being our first day back since my getting ill.

It went well no runing in but was a bit sticky with me when i tried to send him down the line for a retrive he would only go so far and then become unsure of him self and come back. He has also developed a habit of weeing on every blade of grass!!! is this normal and how can i break it?

Dont know if it was because of the other dogs but...

Well, not really, but a bit of a smile anyway.

Jack the Lab pup when at play in the garden this autumn decided he liked windfall cider apples as a pre dinner snack. To the point where if there were none on the ground, he'd rear up and batter the lower branches with his paws and knock a few down.
