I have heard varying views on 'training' your dog in preparation for steadiness in the field, with the view to competing in field trials. Various
suggestions I have heard are training the dog on a line, therefore preventing any chasing, but risking the problem of the dog 'bolting' the second the
training line is removed! To 'rugby tackling' the dog as it heads out of the starting blocks, so to speak - I would have to be bionic to catch mine!

After having such success with a bumper and with quail hunting, I took my 1yr old GSP dove hunting today. However whenever I sent him to make a retrieve, he
would pick up the dove and drop it whenever I asked him to bring it back. I have heard that some bird dogs do not like the fur/feathers on a dove because they
are so fine. I was wondering if this is true and if there is any way to fix it.
